Password generator

Generates strong passwords with configurable length and characters.

Reviewed practical guide

How to generate a random password and store it safely

Combine length and character variety, understand the strength indicator and avoid reusing the output across services.

The generator runs in your browser and uses the device Web Crypto API as its random source. You can select a length from 4 to 128 characters and enable uppercase, lowercase, numbers and symbols. Generation does not require sending the password to the server.

The displayed meter is an estimate based on length and character sets; it does not check breaches, context or reuse. A long, unique password stored in a manager is generally more useful than a hard-to-type string that ends up reused.

What result to expect

You will receive a new string that can be copied directly into a password manager or the destination service.

When this is useful

  • Create a unique credential for a new account.
  • Replace an exposed or reused password with an independent one.
  • Generate temporary secrets for test environments that contain no real data.

Checks before sharing

  • Do not reuse the same result across email, banking, work and other services.
  • Avoid copying sensitive passwords on devices or clipboard tools you do not control.
  • Enable MFA and keep recovery codes; a password is not the only layer you need.

Limitations to understand

  • The visual score does not check breach lists or a service’s specific password policy.
  • The site is not a password manager and cannot recover previously generated results.
  • Some forms reject particular symbols; adjust the sets without reducing length excessively.

Frequently asked questions

Is the password generated on the server?

No. This utility uses Web Crypto in the browser. You should still protect the device and avoid untrusted extensions or applications.

How many characters do I need?

Requirements vary, but 16 or more is a reasonable starting point for random passwords when supported. For critical accounts, use the longest practical value the service accepts.

Do I have to memorise it?

Not when you use a reputable password manager. Memorise its master password and protect that account with MFA.
